Full Court to welcome Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang

Hearty Congratulations to Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang President of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT).

Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang took over as President of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal with effect from October 23, 2023 at the headquarters of the Income-tax Appellate Tribunal at Mumbai.

The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal which was established on January 25, 1941, is considered as Mother Tribunal of our Country. It is the first time in the history of the ITAT that the Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang took oath in the open court in the presence of Honourable Members of the ITAT, lawyers, Chartered Accountants and Departmental Representatives.

After the oath ceremony Honourabe Vice President Shri. G.S Pannu introduced the Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang.

“Born on 5 November 1960 at Khamgaon, District Buldhana. Graduated in Science from G.S. College of Commerce, Science and Arts, Khamgaon in 1981. Obtained LL.B. Degree from Nagpur University and was enrolled as an Advocate on 5 December 1984. Comes from a family of Lawyers. Practiced mainly on Civil and Criminal side, in the District Court and for some time at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, before joining Maharashtra Judicial Service, as a directly recruited District Judge on 3 October 2000. Worked as Additional District and Sessions Judge at Nagpur, Member Industrial Tribunal at Bandra and Principal District and Sessions Judge, Nashik. Also worked in the Registry of the Bombay High Court, on various positions, as Registrar (Vigilance), Registrar (Judicial), Registrar (Personnel) and Registrar (Inspection). Was appointed as Registrar General on 13 May 2013. Elevated as a Judge, Bombay High Court on 3 March 2014.”

Mr. K. Gopal Vice-President ITAT Bar Association Mumbai, Shri Mangesh Khare Central Council Member of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of India, Smt. Parminder Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, wished the Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang good luck and support to the Honorable President for discharging the duties as a President of the ITAT.

Honourable President Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang has stated that he will discharge his duties as per the oath taken by him in the name of God and the Constitution of India.

Honourable Vice-President Shri. G.S. Pannu expressed their gratitude to the members of the Bar and Departmental Representatives who could make it convenient to attend the meeting on the auspicious day of Navratri.

The full-court welcome function ended with the National Anthem.

 

Honourable Shri Justice Chandrakant V. Bhadang and Honourable Vice-President Shri G. S. Pannu immediately after the oath ceremony sat on the regular Bench and discharged the Judicial functions.

    On behalf of the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners as well as on our behalf, we congratulate Your Honour on being appointed as the President of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT). The ITAT is the oldest institution in the country. It is rightly referred to as the Mother Tribunal and has over the passage of time proved itself to be true to its guiding principles of speedy and fair dispensation of Justice in the field of Income – tax Law.

    All India Federation of Tax Practitioners is one of the largest professional bodies of tax practitioners, Advocates and Chartered Accountants, both of Direct and Indirect Taxes. It has been functioning for the last about 46 years and founded by Renowned Jurist Late Nani Palkhiwala and Hon’ble Justice J. C. Shah, Judge, Supreme Court of India. The aims of the Federation are to promote interest, awareness, and carrier opportunities in the field of taxations amongst Indian Citizen. Presently, AIFTP has above 11000 members from all part of the country and about 130 Tax Bar Association located in 27 out of 29 state of our country.

    Hon’ble sir, the AIFTP had published two books i.e. ‘A Fine Balance – Law, Practice, Procedure and Conventions’ dedicated to Padmavibhushan Late Dr. N. A. Palkhivala, which was released by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra, the then Chief Justice of India; and ‘Interpretation of Taxing Statutes’ dedicated to Late Mr. Justice S. H. Kapadia, Former Chief Justice of India, which was released by Hon’ble Justice Mr. A. K. Sikri, Judge Supreme Court of India.

    Your Honour’s rich experience in administrative matters and your unfailing judicious approach will have a positive impact not only on the dispensation of Justice and also shall greatly contribute to the state’s efforts for the speedy disposal of the pending matters.
