Felicitation Function of ITAT Bar Association Mumbai on January 11, 2024, In honour of Hon’ble Justice, Shri C.V. Bhadang, President of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal.

The ITAT Bar Association Mumbai has hosted a felicitation function in honour of Hon’ble Justice, Shri C.V. Bhadang, on being appointed as the President Income Tax Appellate Tribunal and assuming charge on October 23, 2023.

Mr. K. Gopal, Advocate and Vice-president of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai was the master of the ceremony of the felicitation function. He welcomed the Hon’ble Members, Members of the ITAT Bar Association.

Mr. Porus Kaka Senior Advocate, President of the ITAT Bar Association welcomed Hon’ble Justice Shri C.V. Bhadang, President Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. Mr. Porus Kaka, in his brief introduction, welcomed the ITAT President. He introduced the honourable President to the great heritage of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai and the contribution of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai in preserving the independence of the Institution.

Mr. Porus Kaka assured the Hon’ble President that the members of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai will always stand for the independence of the Institution and will send objective suggestions for better administration of Justice. He stated that ITAT Bar Association Mumbai is always for the betterment of the ITAT. He assured the Hon’ble President that every member of the ITAT BAR will sincerely support the Hon’ble President to discharge the function as President of the ITAT.

On behalf of the ITAT Bar Association, Dr K. Shivaram Senior Advocate, and Past President of the ITAT Bar Association presented publications and memento as a mark of honour and respect to Honourable Justice, Shri C.V. Sharing his few thoughts, Dr. K. Shivaram stated:

– Honourable Justice Shri C.V. Bhadang President of Income-tax Appellate Tribunal has taken charge, on October 23, 2023. He stated that one must acknowledge that in 83 years of History of the ITAT, it is for the first time the honourable President has taken an oath in the open court in the presence of all the members in the name of God and the constitution of India. It is a great memorable day for the institution

-Secondly, On the same day Hon’ble President sat on the Bench and discharged the judicial function. This showed the commitment to the Institution.
-Thirdly – On the 25th the Hon’ble President inaugurated the moot court competition of Padma Vibhushan Dr. N.A. Palkhivala, and also sent the message. This showed encouragement to young Students of our country.

– Lastly, The Hon’ble President is one of the finest people and an excellent administrator. If the members of the Bar have any issues one can approach him and he will do his best to resolve the issues. He wished the President the best for his tenure as the President of the ITAT.

Mr. Porus Kaka, Senior Advocate and President of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai introduced the guest of honour, Shri R.S Syal former Vice-President of the ITAT Pune Bench.

Mr. Porus Kaka highly appreciated the integrity, honesty and punctuality of the Shri. R.S. Syal as a vice -President and member of the ITAT for more than 23 years.

Mr.Subash S. Shetty, Advocate and Past President of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai has presented a memento as a mark of honour and respect to Shri R.S Syal.

Dr. K. Shivaram stated that in his letter addressed on the occasion of farewell function which was held on January 03, 2024, at Pune, he had shared his thoughts and best wishes to Shri R.S Syal, which is published on itatonline.org.

He stated that Shri R.S Syal will be remembered for his, integrity, punctuality, fairness, humbleness and discharge of his duties as a role model to the members of the ITAT off the Bench and from the Bench and wished him a great future life.

Speaking on the occasion Honourable Justice, Shri C.V. Bhadang, President Income Tax Appellate Tribunal stated that he desires to have the full cooperation of the members of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai and members can send their objective suggestions for better administration of Justice.

Speaking on the occasion Shri. R.S. Syal stated that he had a very satisfying experience as a vice president and member of the ITAT. He highly appreciated the quality of the representation by the members of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai. He will cherish the interaction with each member of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai.

On the said occasion on behalf of the ITAT Bar Association the members of the Bar welcomed Honourable Judicial Member Shri Narendra Kumar Choudhry and Honourable Accountant Member Mrs S. Padmavaty. ITAT Bar Presented flower Bouquet, as a mark of love and respect and wished them all the best.

Ms. Dinkle Hasmukh Hariya Presented a flower bouquet to Hon’ble Shri Narendra Kumar Choudhry, Judicial Member.

Ms. Ritu Punjabi Advocate presented a flower bouquet to Hon’ble, Mrs. S. Padmavaty, Accountant Member.


The meeting was attended by a large number of members of the ITAT Bar Association Mumbai.
