Senior Advocates: Bombay High Court Invites Views From Public Reg Applicants Seeking Designation Of Senior Advocate

The Bombay High Court has issued a Notification dated 29th January 2019 stating that it has received applications/ proposals from 57 Advocates seeking to be designated as ‘Senior Advocates’. The Court has invited suggestions and views from the members of the Bar and other stakeholders with regard to the said applications/ proposals




THE HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT BOMBAY APPELLATE SIDE No. Rule/P.1604/2018 NOTIFICATION

In pursuance of the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (C) No. 454 of 2015 with IC. (C) No. 454 of 2018 with TC (C) No. 819 of 201.6 the Bombay High Court has framed Bombay High Court (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2018 under Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961.

In pursuance of the Notification No.Rule/n1604/2018 dated 30.11.2018, 57 applications and written proposals seeking designation as Senior Advocate have been received by this office from the Applicants mentioned in the list annexed hereto.

The written suggestions/views of the members of the Bar and other stakeholders as per Rule 5(j) of Bombay IIigh Court (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2018 arc invited to the applications and written proposals for designation of Senior Advocates. The written suggestions/views should reach this Office on or before 28th February 2019.

The suggestions/views shall be in writing, shall bear the name and full address of the sender and shall be addressed to the Permanent Secretariat of the High Court. Anonymous petitions/representations/ views will not be entertained. The Suggestions/views shall be submitted only in physical form in writing and submission of such views/suggestions by any other mode shall not be entertained. The suggestions/views shall be submitted only in the office of the Registrar General, 41h Floor, Annex Building, High Court, Bombay on all working days between 11:00 a. m. to 5:00 p.m.

Suggestions/views submitted beyond the said stipulated date and time shall not be entertained.

    It is not clear from the communique as to how the suggestions and views of the Bar members and other stakeholders will be dealt with and whether these will carry any weight in deciding the conferment of title as senior advocates. Since only the well wishers and friends of the applicants will participate in this exercise it will only be an empty formality.
