We invite you for the Inaugural Ceremony, Finals, and Valedictory Ceremony of The Padma Vibhushan N. A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court (Virtual) Competition, 2021 to be held virtually on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 8:30 AM, and the Finals followed by the Valedictory ceremony to be held on November 28, 2021

Pursuant to the consultations with the two senior most Vice Presidents, the Hon’ble President has, vide two orders, both dated 12th November 2021, transferred 16 Members on account of administrative exigencies and in public interest. While 15 Members have been transferred with effect from 26th November 2021, one Member has been transferred with effect from 10th December 2021.

The Padma Vibhushan N. A. Palkhivala Memorial Moot Court (Virtual) and Research Paper Competition, 2021, November 26-28, 2021 is hosted by the Maharashtra National Law University-Mumbai (MNLU-Mumbai) in association with the All-India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) and the Goods and Services Tax Practitioners Association of Maharashtra (GSTPAM). The registration for the Moot Court Competition can be done here. The last date for registration for the Moot Court Competition is extended to October 15, 2021

Justice (Retd) R. V. Easwar, who was also a President of the ITAT, has taken strong exception to the appointment of Vice-President No.7 as the Officiating President and the superseding of six Vice-Presidents. “This is the first instance of a Vice-President who is junior to at least six Vice-Presidents to be given charge as Officiating President. Though, technically, the Act does not say that the rule of seniority of the Vice-Presidents has to be followed, it is well-established that there must be strong reasons, which must be disclosed, if the person appointed supersedes six Vice-Presidents,” he has said.

Upon the completion of term of office of Mr. Justice P.P. Bhatt as President, ITAT, the Ministry of Law and Justice has, vide Order dated 5th September 2021, assigned to Shri G. S. Pannu, Vice-President, ITAT, New Delhi, the charge of Officiating President of the ITAT. Hon’ble Shri Pannu is 7th on the list of Vice-Presidents.

The Writ Petition was listed for hearing in the Court of Hon’ble Chief Justice on 09/03/2021. The notice has been issued to the opposite parties to file their reply.
