Law Ministry Invites Applications For Appointment To Posts Of Judicial & Accountant Members In ITAT

The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a Circular dated 6th July 2018 by which it has invited applications from eligible candidates for appointment to the posts of Judicial and Accountant Members in the ITAT.

There are 21 posts of Judicial Member and 16 posts of Accountant Member which are available for being filled up.

A few posts are reserved for SC, ST, OBC and persons with disabilities.

The posts belong to General Category Services Group ‘A’ (Gazetted) and carry a pay scale of Rs. 2,05,400 – 2,24,400.

The qualifications required for being appointed as a Judicial and Accountant Member are specified in the Circular.

It may be recalled that the validity of the ‘Tribunals, Appellate Tribunals and Other Authorities (Qualifications, Experience And Other Conditions of Service of Members) Rules, 2017‘ has been challenged in the Supreme Court in Kudrat Sandhu vs. UOI (Writ Petition (Civil) No. 279 of 2017).

The Circular states that pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court, the appointment of Members of the ITAT will be for a period of five years or till the maximum age that was fixed under the old Act and Rules.
