Eminent Jurist Ram Jethmalani has launched a blistering no-holds-barred attack to challenge the appointment of K. V. Chowdary, the former CBDT Chairman, as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner (“CVC”).

In a letter dated 26th May 2015 addressed to the Prime Minister, Ram Jethmalani stated that it is his duty to “expose some people’s bad record” and that one of such persons is the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley. He also stated that he has “made no secret” of his “contempt” for the FM. Ram Jethmalani added that he had repeatedly warned that the Finance Minister has “no interest whatsoever in identification and punishment of powerful offenders or in repatriation of the proceeds of their crimes”.

Mr. Jethmalani is opposed to the appointment of K. V. Chowdary as the CVC. He stated that Chowdary “by no means has a clean record”. He also claimed that during KV Chowdary’s posting as a member of the SIT, “nothing remains a secret from the criminals involved”.

Ram Jethmalani also made a pointed reference to Ms. Anita Kapoor, the present CBDT Chairperson, by stating that she is “one more character to be avoided”.

Ram Jethmalani addressed another letter dated 2nd June 2015 to the President in which he stated that he is in a state of “great mental excitement”. He said that he is “shocked” at the appointment of KV Chowdary as the CVC and that it is the “greatest disaster that will fall on this unfortunate nation”. Jethmalani pleaded with the President to call for the entire record of KV Chowdary’s “involvement in criminal activities from which he has managed to get out with the help of corrupt and anti-national elements”.

Ram Jethmalani has requested the President not to accord sanction to the appointment of KV Chowdary as the new CVC.

A report on Mr. KV Chowdary’s career and track record is available here.

In regard to corruption in the IT Department the less said it is better. There is no discipline in the Department, at least in Mumbai offices. Employees come at any time they like and leave any time they chose. Do work only when there is incentive. This has the blessing officers. The Officers including the Commissioners do not attend office in time. The appellate commissioners hear the case many times over and pass orders only if incentives are there and they ask the reps whether they want him to pass orders. They know the only punishment is a transfer and they are protected clan. Who is there to initiate action? People from their own cadres? Heard among the IRS officers who ridicules IAS “whereas an IRS can sign cheques of crores, the IAS cannot” So the claim IRS is superior to IAS. This is the clanish spirit. There should be independent organisation to detect and take stringent action against the IRS cadres.

What is meant by EMINENT JURIST? Ram never thought of becoming a judge, that would have been his greatest contribution to the nation. Instead he chose to continue in defending high profile cases to earn tons of money. Jumping from profession to politics and when it suited left the party in huff and started criticising the party not out of conviction, but to wreck his personal grievances. He is a lawyer and I do not give him any rating.

  3. Mr K.V.Choudary, admired by his Seniors, peers and juniors in the Department for his upright attitude.
A man who became NOTORIOUS by representing many Criminals.

Mr. Ram Jethmalani – he has been nicknamed Joothmalini – since he considers it his professional duty to protect criminals – it is their constitutional right. Would Mr. Jethmalani come out openly and inform us as to how many of his high profile defense cases has he performed ‘Pro-bono’ i.e.for free. Having been a tax practitioner for more than three decades and having interacted with Mr.K.V.Chaudhary as an Asst. Commissioner & Joint Commissioner I would give him a cleaner certificate for honesty and integrity than I could ever for Mr. Ram Joothmalani.

Jethmalani is fortunate enough to have not been practising in other countries like Singapore, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc. In this democractic country he built up a fortune by counselling criminals and accusing all the rest to be criminals.

  6. Pinaki Roy says:

Mr. Ram Jethmalani and his children have all through their lives earned billions by defending the most vile criminals, politicians, rogues. At this ripe old age Mr. Ram cannot give up his habits; more so when he was unceremoniously booted out of BJP. I do not know of this person against whom he is spewing venom. But as a professional I can tell that the majority of lawyers of Jethmamlani type are pure scoundrels and they think they can get away with anything. Knowing what little of our present PM I’d go by the decision of his government.

Whats crime done by K V C ? Please cum out with details Mr Jethmalani.

  8. sukumar says:

whats the crime done by KVC Mr Jethmalani?. Please come out . You plead to save criminals is it not ?

  9. Yugandhar says:

I knew Mr Choudary for more than 30 years. Calling him a “criminal ‘is unfair for a person of his stature.
Union Govt has made a good choice.

Let Mr. Jethmalani first introspect his own career. He has himself appeared as Legal Counsel on behalf of the greatest criminals of India. Any letters he wants to send to the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minster, on this subject. Judiciary of a democratic country is by itself a thing of wayward acts and deeds, not beyond doubts

Respected President and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India kindly look into the complaint of such a luminary because the actions should not only be taken but seem to have been performed in the public eye.

  13. Ravi says:

Personally I appreciate the appointment of Sri K.V.Chowdary as the CVC Chief. As we observed in Visakhapatnam where he was Chief Commissioner of Income Tax before moving on to New Delhi, He is the person who does not budge on to pressure and is considered as a Man with high Integrity.

  14. K.RANGAIAH says:

better to stop mudslingling and be constructive.

  15. Ashwani Joshi says:

Mr Jethmalani should have come out with solid evidence of “crimes” committed by Mr K V Chaudhary so that general public is able to make up its mind to join the campaign of removing filth from administration.
